Composition and main features
The composition of the painting is divided into two plans:
Background-majestic mountains
Foreground-a monk, releasing red paper horses from his hands. Small red figures of horses stand out against the blue background. That's how we understand that the figures are an important part of the picture despite their small size.
The artist in the painting retells the ritual of scattering paper horses by monks to help travelers. The horses are depicted in motion, they run forward from the slope, hurrying to help people who have lost their way.

colours
The background
- white and blue colours (a symbol of natural beauty and power).
The colours of the mountains and the sky combine harmoniously to convey spiritual delight.
The second title of this painting is «Horses of Happiness».
The red colour
- is a symbol of energy, love, happiness
- is a symbol of the revolution and Soviet Power which the author supported.
Through colours, Roerich skillfully combined realism and decorativeness in his works.

MY opinion
The picture has caught my attention with its brightness and richness of colours.
First you pay attention to the mountains, and then you notice small running horses.
The picture evokes a feeling of admiration for the power of nature. And horses fill this nature with their vital energy.
