In 1954, the Rutmaster double-decker bus was created. The name "Routemaster" can be translated as "master of the roads" Passengers had the opportunity to leave the bus not only at stops, but also when the bus stopped. Being able to freely enter and exit vehicles was a reflection of the English spirit of freedom.
Now double-deckers are environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe vehicles.

Big Ben is one of the symbols of London, a neo-Gothic tower with a clock. It stands on the bank of the Thames.
The actual name of Big Ben is Elizabeth Tower. Until 2012, it was officially called the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster.
Big Ben

Слайд #8
The name "Big Ben" is unofficial. This is not the name of the tower, not the clock, but the big bell that strikes every hour. The clock stopped only once when a worker dropped a hammer into the mechanism.

Tower Bridge is a drawbridge in central London over the River Thames, near the Tower of London. It is the symbol of London and Britain.
Tower Bridge

Слайд #10
Construction began in 1886, and the bridge was opened in 1894. More than 11 thousand tons of steel were spent on the construction of the bridge. To protect the bridge towers from rust, they were faced with stone and granite slabs. That's why locals sometimes call this bridge the "steel skeleton in a stone shirt."

The red color of the booth was chosen because of the mists that often enveloped the city in the 20th century. So that people could quickly reach an ambulance, the authorities decided to repaint all the phone booths in a bright color. Despite the fact that the smog problem was solved in 1956, the red booths did not leave London. The British decided not to say goodbye to the bright city symbols, because they were already part of history.

Westminster Abbey is the main church of Great Britain, the traditional place of coronation and burial of the country's monarchs. It is located in the historic district of London.
Westminster Abbey

Слайд #14
It is believed that the first church on the site of the abbey was built in the 7th century. According to legend, more than a thousand years ago, one of the fishermen saw the face of St. Peter above the Thames, St. Peter's Church was built in honor of this event. The current building was built by King Henry III in 1245 and is one of the most outstanding examples of Gothic architecture in England. Clock Tower Westminster Abbey was built in 1288, and it is the oldest clock tower in the world.

The Guards recruit only the best members of the British Army. Historically, the Royal Guards wore red uniforms. This shade was chosen from the point of view of practicality: red is the most difficult color to perceive, and at a distance such a military uniform merges into one bright color block. This allows the enemy to not accurately assess the scale of the British troops attacking him.
King’s Guard

Слайд #18
The most interesting item of the Guardsmen's uniform is a black hat made of bear fur. In favor of natural fur, the government argues that, unlike artificial fur, it keeps its shape in any weather.
Royal Guards are not supposed to talk, laugh or smile. Even a small smile can get you fined.
