(страдательный залог)
Страдательный залог выражает действие, которое совершается над лицом или предметом, которое является подлежащим в предложении.
Страдательный залог используется, когда не важно или не известно, кто совершает действие.
The book is sold in different countries. (Книга продается в разных странах.)

Если в страдательной конструкции указывается исполнитель действия, который выражен одушевленным существительным или местоимением, то он вводится предлогом by:

The letter is written with a pen.
