Extremism: no victory in violence. No peace without development - Freedom From Fear Magazine (F3)

This issue of Freedom From Fear magazine, produced by UNICRI and Ghent University, explores critical topics on violent extremism and terrorism, analyzing new tools, trends, and the nexus with transnational organized crime. It also addresses the link between climate change and violent extremism, emphasizing the threat it poses to peace and security and its detrimental effect on the achievement of development and social cohesion. The issue highlights gender-based norms, amplifies the voices of terrorism survivors, and explores the role of sports in addressing extremism. Additionally, it discusses the impact of new technologies, presenting both threats and opportunities for terrorists, violent extremists, and counter-terrorism actors. Furthermore, this issue illustrates efforts by UNICRI and partners to stay ahead of the curve through diverse initiatives to reduce vulnerabilities, and support peace and development.
