Geographical location. Relief. The climate is located in the north of Eastern Siberia, includes the Novosibirsk Islands. More than 1/3 of the territory is located beyond the Arctic Circle. Most of them are occupied by vast mountain systems, highlands and plateaus. In the west is the Central Siberian Plateau, bounded on the east by the Central Yakut lowland. Lena is the longest river in Yakutia.
Lena is the second, after the Yenisei, the most full-flowing river in Russia. The Lena River in length (4472 km) and the size of the catchment area (2,245,000 sq. km) is one of the greatest rivers in the world. The total length of 240 thousand rivers and tributaries of the Lena is more than 1 million km. Lena collects from the vast territory of its basin as much water as the five large rivers of our country - the Volga, the Dnieper, the Don, the Neva and the Northern Dvina - give together. Every year Lena pours 489 cubic meters into the Laptev Sea . km, or an average of 15.5 thousand cubic meters of water per second. (She is seventh in the "world ranking". The indigenous population of Yakutia (365 thousand people), the Yakut language belongs to the northeastern branch of the Turkic group of Altaic languages. Believers are Orthodox. The Yakuts were formed as a result of the absorption by the southern Turkic-speaking settlers of the local tribes of the middle Lena River. Racially, the Yakuts are representatives of the Central Asian anthropological type of the North Asian race. In the traditional economy and material culture of the Yakuts, there are many features similar to the culture of cattle breeders of Central Asia. The inclusion of the Yakuts into the Russian state (1620s-30s) accelerated their socio-economic and cultural development. In the 17th and 19th centuries, the main occupation of the Yakuts was cattle breeding, since the second half of the 19th century, a significant part began to engage in agriculture; hunting and fishing played a subsidiary role. The main occupation of the Yakuts was the breeding of horses and cattle. Pastoralists made seasonal migrations, and hay was harvested for cattle for the winter. Great importance was attached to fishing and hunting. Yakut horses could feed themselves, in winter they shoveled snow with their hooves, broke the ice crust, and foraged themselves.
