The organization of cargo operations and safety is assigned to one of the ship's officers (at sea, this is the Chief Officer, on the river – the Second Officer)
Upon arrival on the ship, each crew member is required to pass a safety briefing and sign about it.
Ship's officers must take a responsible approach to safety issues and regularly conduct training sessions with personnel working directly with cargo devices.

Every crew member must clearly understand that safety is paramount, and they must not expose themselves to unnecessary risks. They must have a sound assessment of a situation and have necessary skills and abilities to ensure their own safety and that of their companions. Safety instructions are written in blood.

availability of qualified personnel who have passed the necessary training and instructions
- use of necessary equipment (gloves, overalls, hard hats, safety glasses)
- direct communication with the bridge by VHF station
clear distribution of duties between the sailors
