Guam, island and unincorporated territory of the United States in the North Pacific Ocean, the largest, most populous, and southernmost of the Mariana Islands. It lies about 9,300 km west of San Francisco and 2,600 km east of Manila. Guam is the closest land to the Mariana Trench, about 340 km away.

Some facts about Guam.
Hagåtña (Agana) is the capital . Major settlements are Dededo, in the north-central part of the island, Machanao, in the north, and Apotgan, on the west coast.

The population of Guam is 193,000 people. The majority of them are Chamorro (38%), Filipino (27%), European (7%), Chinese (4%), Micronesian (4%) and Korean (3%). All residents of the island have U.S. citizenship and enjoy equal rights with Americans living on the main land.
There are two official languages in the country – English
and the local language - Chamorro.
More than 80% of the population are Catholics.
Guam has its own Statue of Liberty, but it is much smaller than the original.
From Guam people can take a trip to the Mariana Trench.

Culture and traditions
The Guamanians are one of the friendliest peoples in the world. In this country, the influence of old traditions with their ceremonies and taboos has been preserved. The inhabitants of the island speak «Aybro", a special sign language, which is a whole system of communication. Guam is an island with a rich culture going back centuries, and carefully preserved by the descendants of the indigenous Chamorro population. The ancient Chamorro culture is characterized by a wealth of myths and legends.

Local people are proud of their traditions. They like to celebrate their holidays and festivals.
"Latte stones" are famous historical monuments.
