Edgar Degas was a famous French painter.
He was born on July 19th in 1834 in Paris.

He was the oldest of five children. His father was a banker so the family had enough money.
As a child, Degas was interested in history and Latin language but his main hobby was painting.

In 1856 Degas moved to Italy for two years. He visited the main cultural cities of the country such as Rome and Florence.
Then he returned to Paris and opened his own workshop (мастерская).

One of the artist's favorite themes was ballet.
Such paintings were very popular because people really liked how Degas showed the beauty and grace of the dancers.

His paintings were bright and colorful but realistic.
Some of the most famous works are «Blue dancers» and «The dancing class».

He also painted horses, life scenes and portraits.

Ten years before his death, Degas stopped painting because he was almost blind (слепой).
He died on September 27, 1917. The painter was 83 years old. He was popular during his lifetime and after his death as one of the most talented Impressionist artists.
