Christmas Day is celebrated on the 25th of December. It is one of the most favorite holidays in Great Britain. People buy presents to each other. They like to decorate Christmas tree and cook dinner this day. It is a family holiday.

 Boxing Day is celebrated on the 26th of December (the next day after Christmas). Children like this day very much, because they can open their Christmas presents. It is popular British tradition to put presents into socks.

New Year is not as popular as Christmas. It is celebrated on the 1st of January. People do not give presents to each other. They prefer to spend time with friends. British like to have fireworks this day.

British people like Thanksgiving Day very much. This holiday is celebrated in November. The main dish this day is turkey. People cook it all over the Great Britain. They also decorate their houses with autumn leaves and candles.

Easter is a religious holiday. British people celebrate Easter in April. They give chocolate eggs to each other. Parents hide colorful eggs from their children and children have to find them. On Sunday people go to the Church.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st. It is a very old holiday. In ancient times people thought that on this day ghosts and witches are free. So, people stayed at home. Now in Britain and in the USA it is a time for fun. There are a lot of parties on October 31st. People dress as witches and ghosts. They also make lanterns from pumpkins. Children go out into the street, come to their neighbours doors and say: “Trick or treat”. They usually get a treat – some chocolate, sweets, nuts or money

St Valentine’s Day is celebrated every February 14. It is a holiday for couples. People give presents to their boyfriends and girlfriends. People in love like to spend time together, go to restaurants or to the cinema this day.
