This is a house of the Bronte family
Charlotte was born on 21 April 1816, Emily on 30 July 1818 and Anne on 17 January 1820 all in Thornton, Yorkshire. They had two sisters, both of whom died in childhood and a brother, Branwell. Their father, Patrick, was an Anglican clergyman who was appointed as the rector of the village of Haworth. After the death of their mother in 1821, their Aunt Elizabeth came to look after the family.

Clergy Daughters' School
at Cowan Bridge
The following year, Maria and Elizabeth fell gravely ill and were removed from the school but died shortly afterwards within a few weeks of each other. Charlotte and Emily were also withdrawn from the school and returned to home. After that bad experience and family tragedy Charlotte started her studies at quite expensive school of Miss Wooler in a small town in West Yorkshire. That was a great choice. Charlotte was happy there and studied well. Emily and Ann were taught at home but school memories remained in their memory forever. After graduation Charlotte was invited to teach at the school where she was studying and her sisters were employed as governesses in wealthy families.

Jane Eyre
Charlotte began working on a second manuscript Jane Eyre. Six weeks later Jane Eyre was published and had immediate commercial success. It tells the story of a plain governess, Jane, who, after difficulties in her early life, falls in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester. They marry, but only after Rochester's insane first wife, of whom Jane initially has no knowledge, dies in a dramatic house fire.
The book's style was innovative, combining naturalism with gothic melodrama. The most famous novel of Charlotte Brontë tells us the story of emotional and spiritual growth of Jane whose fate mainly repeats the Charlotte’s fate. Brontë believed art was most convincing when based on personal experience; in Jane Eyre she transformed the experience into a novel with universal appeal. As a whole ring the happy life story of the poor orphan Jane Eyre seems like a fairy tale, but it is the result of hard work, fidelity and courage of the main character of the novel.

Wuthering Heigts
At first glance, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is a story of gloomy fateful passions of personalities that are close to the heroes of Byron's romantic poems. The story is centered around one theme - the love of Catherine Earnshaw and poor Heathcliff. Catherine is a daughter of a Yorkshire Farmer and owner of Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff is an orphan from Liverpool who was brought to Earnshaw family by Mr Earnshaw. They love each other but Catherine betrays their feeling preferring poor Heathcliff to a wealthy gentleman. Suddenly Heathcliff became very rich man and started to accuse Catherine of betraying him and their love. Before the death Catherine was deeply sorry but strong desire for revenge did not leave Heathcliff until his death.

After the publication of the novels the Bronte sisters became famous and they finally gained financial independence. It was a time when they could leave the work as a governesses and do what they like. But all Bronte’s children were not healthy. Ann and Emily died from tuberculosis in 1848. Left alone with her father, Charlotte continued to write.
Charlotte and Arthur Bell Nicholls married in 1854 and their marriage was a success and Brontë found herself very happy. Unfortunately it didn’t last long. Charlotte died with her unborn child in March 1855, three weeks before her 39th birthday cause of tuberculosis.
The sisters Bronte introduce authentic female voices in literature. Bronte’s women are able to make decisions independent, to achieve their goals and to be responsible for their mistakes without blaming others. Charlotte Bronte was one of the first novelist who shows unsightly and poor life of women which have lack of opportunities for their development and growth as members of the society.
It’s amazing that Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights are still so popular. I think it’s the sheer power of the storytelling and the themes feel just as relevant today.
